This three week class examines portrait painting through changing light, atmosphere, and color. Each session will feature a different lighting arrangement and palette approach, studying how light itself can transform mood, structure, and expression in portrait painting. Moving from the restrained drama of the tenebrist tradition to the vibrant color relationships of contemporary painting, the course will explore both classical and modern ideas while emphasizing strong design, structure, and painterly interpretation.
